Tantalising

Tantalising /ˈtæn.tə.laɪ.zɪŋ/
causing desire and excitement in you,
but is unlikely to provide a way of satisfying that desire.
Tantalising cover, 2022.

Tantalisingis a combination of writing and oil pastel drawings. This illustrated research is about the odyssey of a body chasing the illusional ideal. The journey is a succession of transformations, encounters and navigation between different spaces.
It is also the base of the inner-intergalactic world where the fat-creatures live.

What is preventing people from eating peacefully? I call the wide range of obsessive and restrictive eating behaviours with different frequencies and degrees ‘expressive eating behaviours’. Sporadic or persistent eating patterns are commonly experienced, consciously or without knowing it. How do expressive eating behaviours show the pressure of self-mastery on individuals in capitalist societies?
“Sourcing from French and Korean literature, myths and visual art, my investigation starts from the gap between reality and the idea of self-control. The basis of capitalist societies is production and consumption. To fulfil these criteria, one must be agile and efficient, crystallising perfectionism. But a dissonance between the ideal and the reality full of mistakes cannot be narrowed down. Like dieting where people are still encouraged to reach the impossible goal in their daily lives, affecting the relationship with food.”
